Animal Touch Tellington Touch South Africa

About TTouch                                                                            A Gentle & Holistic Approach to Behavioral & Health Problems in Animals

The Tellington Touch (TTouch)was developed 30 years ago by Linda Tellington-Jones originally for horses to improve performance, eliminate undesirable behaviour, reduce stress and enhance healing. She found that by moving horse's bodies in ways that they normally would not move, new neural pathways to the brain were being activated. She was amazed that these simple exercises changed unwanted behaviour and that horses learnt much faster than when repetitive methods of horse training were used.

By the mid 1980's Linda and her sister Robyn were using TTouch  with an amazing variety of species. They were discovering the amazing possibilities for reducing pain, stress and fear in these animals.

The Tellington Touch consists of different types of touches, lifts and slides that are done over the whole body of the animal. This activates the nervous system, releases endorphins,  increases confidence and improves behaviour.

The other aspect of the Tellington Touch work includes groundwork exercises where the animal is led through and over a series of pole and other obstacles to improve balance, coordination and obedience. The combination of body and groundwork enables the practitioner to address many common physical , emotional and behavioural issues. In order to enhance the animal’s ability to learn we do not employ the threat of fear, pain or dominance as in other training systems.

Today TTouch is being used successfully in many countries and in many different environments from zoos to veterinary practices to shelters to ordinary homes with pets. The method is easy to learn and extremely beneficial to older pets.
