The picture on the left shows the basic hand and finger position of the Clouded Leopard touch. The thumb stabilises the hand and the other four fingers make a light contact with the animals skin. In the case of the Clouded Leopard touch only the pads of the fingers under the nails makes the contact. The dog is supported at the chest with the other hand.
The skin is now moved in a clockwise circle from the ground up as if you were starting at 6 o’clock on a clock face and then moving around the face of the clock to 7 and then 8 and so on until you get back to 6 o’clock again. This would be one complete circle.
It has been determined that and extra quarter of a circle, Ie: moving past 6 o’clock and stopping at 8 or 9 o’ clock produces a better effect in the body. So in effect the TTouch is a circle and a quarter.
After completing one circle and a quarter you slide or lift your hand to the next spot on your pet’s body and repeat until you have worked the whole body, including the legs and belly.
The time it takes to complete one TTouch is about 3 seconds. Working slowly like this helps to calm your pet down and creates awareness. The pressure is quite light, just enough to get the skin moving. If your pet moves away or gets fussy then your pressure may be too much or it may indicate that your pet is carrying tension in that area, which means that’s where you need to work.
